Masters in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner



With the recent healthcare reform, it is estimated that 31 million new people will require primary care. GSU’s Master of Science in Nursing programs are preparing leaders who will address these challenges on the local, regional, national and global healthcare fronts.

Prospective students will discover our exceptional nursing program focuses on providing quality, holistic care, creating healing environments and building caring communities. In addition, all nursing students are taught by professional faculty members who include Advanced Practice Nurses, seasoned educators and doctoral-prepared researchers

GSU’s program offers students a choice of concentrations: Nursing Administration, Family Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Adult Healthcare. We also offer our Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate that prepares Advanced Practice Nurses who have a MSN degree to qualify for licensure as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Our Family Nurse Practitioner concentration offer nurses the opportunity to hone their skills in the coordination of healthier lives for patients of all ages. Your training at GSU will prepare you to provide primary care to individuals across the lifespan and in a variety of primary care settings. Furthermore, we offer the MSN concentration in a flexible manner that includes full and part-time options and convenient scheduling to accommodate working nurses.

The program requires a total of 42 hours in course work, with an additional -three credits if you choose the thesis option. All our graduate Nursing programs are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.

In the Family Nurse Practitioner concentration, students have the opportunity to experience challenging courses such: Theoretical Perspectives for Advanced Nursing, Clinical Issues in Adult Health, Research in Adult Health, Aging Family in Health and Illness, Family Nurse Practitioner Internship and Project, and the Graduate Thesis/Project.
